WVC names new interim men's baseball coach
Dustin Willis is the new interim men’s head baseball coach at Wenatchee Valley College (WVC). Former head coach Kevin Frady resigned on Monday.
This is Willis’ second season with the WVC men’s baseball team. He served as assistant coach last year.
“I’m excited to get out on the field with the new recruiting class we have,” Willis said. “Weather permitting, we should be practicing outdoors in mid-February.”
Baseball practice is suspended this week as students are completing final exams. After Christmas break, practice will resume indoors at the Wenatchee Valley Sportsplex, Willis said. The official season begins in March.
Willis is a Kamiakin High School graduate. He began his college baseball career at Washington State University, then transferred to Lewis-Clark State College where he continued to play college baseball and graduated with a bachelor’s degree in sports administration in 2009.
In addition to his position at WVC, Willis served as assistant coach for the Spokane River Hawks in summer 2009. The River Hawks play in the West Coast League, as do the Wenatchee AppleSox, he said. The past two summers Willis coached for two American Legion Baseball programs in the Tri-Cities. In 2010, he coached the Kennewick Dusters. In 2011, he served as pitching coach for the Twin City Titans.
